So the super sweet Kelly at Walkin' On Sunshine nominated me for a Leibster Award. Yay!
Now, what is it you say? Well, according to Kelly:
The Liebster Award is a blogger to blogger, peer award, used to highlight up and coming, smaller, lesser known blogs that are less than 6 months old and have less than 200 followers. Liebster is an award that you accept with an intention of paying it forward. It means kindest, dearest, beloved, cute, and endearing in German.
Super sweet, right? So even though I've been blogging for more than 6 months, I'm pretty much just getting back into it as a regular thing, so I think I can squeeze in. And it'll be fun, right??
So here is what I have to do:
1. You must post 11 random things about yourself.
2. Answer the questions that the nominator set for you.
3. Create 11 questions for the people you nominate.
4. Choose 11 new blogs you love and link them in your post.
5. Please leave me a comment on this post with the URL to your Liebster post so I can learn more about you!
So here are 11 random things about me:)
1. Once I am photographed in an outfit, I have a hard time getting myself to wear it again. This is especially true if the photo is framed in my house or on my Facebook page where I have to see it.
2. When I turned 30 I had a slight depression about being 30 and childless. 4 1/2 months later I found out I was expecting. My daughter came early, 6 days BEFORE I turned 31. I can now technically say I had my first child at 30:)
3. I have one sibling, a brother 5 years younger than me. The difference in age and gender has essentially made us both have first born characteristics (no one to compete with).
4. I met my husband at a mexican restaurant while out to dinner with my girlfriends.
5. Bill and I met in Houston, but both are from different areas.
6. We got married 5 months and 1 day after we met. PS, I don't recommend this, but it worked for us.
7. My best friend and I have have never lived closer than 2 1/2 hours apart. We are currently 5 hours away from each other. Thank God for email and texting!
8. I swore I'd never "depend on a man" to support me and stay home. I severely underestimated my desire to control the care of my child. I now stay home. (And, btw, when you're partners with your spouse, you're supporting each other. He's just in charge of the money making;)
9. I have never said this to anyone, but everyday I realize that I parent just like my must have when I was little. I don't remember what she was like when I was 2, obviously, but there must be an impression left by it. L and I are totally best friends even now, and Mom and I are, too. This closeness and playfulness at an early age has to be how it starts.
10. I did pageants. Not the kind with talent, but definitely a lot of public speaking. I used to rock public speaking.
11. I used to be a teacher. Most people reading this already know that, but the new readers from Trendy Tot Tuesday probably don't:)
11 Questions:
1. What is your dream home?
Honestly, I don't want much more than I have now. Our office is off the master. If I could move it to the front of the house so it could be a playroom with a fold out couch, then I could live hear forever. Ideally, though, if I ever go through the trouble of moving, I would add that, plus one more bedroom and bathroom
2. What is your favorite song and why?
Wow, this is tough! My standard favorite song answer is Your Love by The Outfield. I love the cheesy '80's goodness of it. However, the song "Where I Belong" by Building 39 is a beautiful reminder that the stresses and worries of this world are temporary and our permanent home with our heavenly Father awaits:)
3. Who is your celebrity design alter ego? (ex: Nate Berkus, Martha Stewart, Holly Becker @ Decor8, etc).
Ok, I'm not a big follower of interior designers, but some of these people sell themselves as brands and I see a lot of their items. My home though is a bit eccentric, as I just like what I like! That's also changing a lot as I'm changing a few things now. My new additions (breakfast room chairs, throw pillows in living room and large artwork over fireplace) are all from Pier One. I didn't really mean for that to happen, they just had what I wanted.
4. What is your favorite blog post you have ever done and why?
The one where I announced we were expecting Leighton. Best. News. Ever.
5. What are 3 of your favorite blogs and why do you love them?
Mrs. In Training. Her daughter and Leighton are about the same age, so her posts are really relatable. Plus she has great style for her, her home and her daughter; so her fashion and home posts are inspirational for me, personally.
Brown Girl Blogs. Love her sense of humor! I generally don't like a blog post without a lot of pictures, but she's hilarious! Wish she blogged more.
6. How long have you been blogging and why did you start?
Actually, it's been a while. I'm not even sure. At first it was just to try to keep everyone up on us. A blog post gives the story where a status update or pic on Facebook is more of just a headline. We have very little family in our immediate area, and the ones we have we don't get to see much. But as I started reading blogs I enjoyed the link ups and socialization of it;)
7. "I'll ----------- if it's the last thing I do".
Wow, how do I answer this?? Well, get this house organized and decluttered for short term. And vacay in the Greek Isles for long term dreaming. There isn't much chance of that happening though. I think the plane ride would do me in;-)
8. Best vintage or decor find of all time?
I have an antique drink cabinet that I used as an armoire when I was in high school and living at home. It's really beautiful and unique. It's wrapping storage now, but when I get a better place for that I'd like to use it as a bar area
9. What is a home trend that you have tried/followed that you've regretted? I don't know if it was a trend but we definitely went overboard on the big and marble topped when we bought our furniture! Softening it up has been quite a challenge!
10. Who is your favorite author? Jodi Piccoult hands down. Woman can tell a story like no other.
11. Favorite Pattern? As far as clothes are concerned, horizontal stripes. Especially in tops. Can't get enough.
I nominate:
Okay, so that's only 8. But seriously, it is HARD to find "smaller" blogs and these are all older than 6 months! If anyone has any suggestions of a great smaller blog, lemme know and I will add them!
