Closet

A while back (as in before pregnancy and subsequent motherhood sucked out all of my energy and spare time) I did a post on the start of me trying to make my itty bitty closet a workable space.

I haven't been a full-time mom for that long, so juggling work clothes, lounge clothes and "weekend" clothes were getting tough. Not to mention I hate throwing things away.

Well, it only got worse. I couldn't stand pressure on my stomach in early pregnancy, and maternity clothes were too big. Then those "in between" clothes were too tight and the wrong season when I first went back to work.

Point is, it still needs to be cleaned out AGAIN and is more crowded than before. But as I wrestle with what to throw and what to keep, I did pretty it up a little and added some organizational touches.

The baskets are for socks, underwear, etc. My closet is in my bathroom, so walking to the bedroom for those items is over kill (and part of my storage problem). Pjs are kept on the left side in a large hanging set of cloth shelves bought at the closet section of target. The storage cube also doubles as a step stool to reach my shoes. My nicer handbags are on the upper shelves in dust covers.
Back of the closet door has scarves, belts and a couple of awkward-shaped bags.
Upper right shelf has short boots. I have still yet to buy shoe boxes for these.
These are my pumps, dress boots and nicer flats and wedges. That is a lone pair of tennis on the left, not sure how they snuck up there;-)

In the mean time, I am saving pics of other peoples closets from blogs and house listings b/c my next house will be much better!

Top 2 Tuesday Plus

Top 2 Favorite Christmas ornaments

1. These are a set. They are ornaments my grandfather cut out and my aunt painted. They are probably 16 or 17 years old. He passed away 15 years ago and had been my mom's. I asked her if I could have them for my baby's first Christmas, and she decided to give them to me as part of my 30th birthday gift. I think it was a hint to have a baby. And apparently it worked:)

The other's are ties. The first two are our first Christmas ornaments. They were gifts at our wedding reception.

This one is part of several really pretty ones my grandmother gave me for my first Christmas tree.

This one was the cake topper at our reception Bill's parents' threw for us.

Speaking of decorating, we have been VERY busy around our house.

First, we had the guest bathroom and the baby's room painted. Then wood floors put in the baby's room.

The guest bath was painted a light blue with a silver wash streaked over it. She also did fleur de lis wall mud stencils in different sizes around the room. We have a picture to hang over the toilet that I just haven't had the  patience for yet. I also play to get a vallance for the window and a small cabinet for all the extra stuff we're going to have once Baby Girl gets here.

The colors don't show as well in the pictures, it's actually a brighter blue.

I also couldn't resist a matching tree for the room...

Speaking of trees....

The first one has the ornaments my mom gave me. Plus, I added some fillers. Next year I'll add some more, but I just couldn't find a ribbon I liked. And i ran out of money, lol.

This is our main tree. It's the first year with the 9 footer, though. Very tedious to decorate, I needed a step ladder. The mantle has stockings that match, though I downgraded the mantle big time this year. Ran out of energy and patience.

 And Baby Girl's room...

Here's the before (my workout/craft room)

And here's the after! The bedding for the nursery is bold and has a lot of teal. I wanted neutral walls, but not boring, so I went with a faux finish by the fabulous Gwen (who also did the guest bath).

And that is all for my super long and random post!

Weekend Chores

This weekend was busy!

We got a lot checked off of our "to-do" list, though. Mostly because Kevin came to help!

Here's what we did:

I "decorated" the wall above my scrapbook table. Though I actually did this a while back, but this weekend I finally got the Christmas tree up in the attic and out of this room to be able to take the picture, lol.

Implemented my new clear shoe boxes from The Container Store!
This is step one in beautifying my closet. I'm determined to make it as well-decorated as a regular room;=)

New lighting!! Now if only my curtains would come in quicker...

Entry

And living.

Next on the agenda is filling in that big cubby where the TV is (to the left in the photo) with a nice built-in. Also need to paint the guest bath.

And as I've said before, these chores will all be completel roughly 1-2 years before we realize we don't want to live here anymore! Haha!
